Twilight Hits Theaters

“I’d never given much thought to how I would die—though I’d had reason enough in the last few months—but even if I had, I would not have imagined it like this…Surely it was a good way to die, in the place of someone else, someone I loved,” said Bella Swam, “Twilight.” “Noble, even…But, terrified as I was, I couldn’t bring myself to regret the decision. When life offers you a dream so far beyond any of your expectations, it’s not reasonable to grieve when it comes to an end.”
For Twilight fans the opening scene of the movie, where Bella Swan’s voice can be heard in a voice over, has been long anticipated. Bella’s opening quote in the movie, which stayed true to the opening lines in Stephanie Meyer’s first book “Twilight,” brought a hush over the audience in the theater. I’ve never heard a darkened theater so quiet.

With fresh new faces cast as the main characters; Kristen Stewart (Bella Swan), Robert Pattinson (Edward Cullen), Billy Burke (Charlie Swan), Ashley Greene (Alice Cullen), Nikki Reed (Rosalie Hale), Jasckson Rathbone (Jasper Hale), Kellan Lutz (Emmet Cullen), Peter Facinelli (Dr. Carlisle Cullen), Cam Gigandet (James), Taylor Lautner (Jacob Black) and Elizabeth Reaser (Esme Cullen), the movie was a success before it even hit theaters on November 21.

Three weeks before this much anticipated film opened 43 percent of fandango.com sales were from the purchase of advanced tickets of “Twilight.” Now that the movie has finally opened, ticket sales have gone up. On November 21, 51 percent of the purchases on fandango.com that day alone were for “Twilight.”

Fans have been waiting for this movie since it was first announced in the pre-production stages and they weren’t disappointed with the end product. The seductive and suspenseful drama of the pages came to life on screen in a brilliant display of awkwardness and affection. From Edward and Bella’s very first meeting, to one of the most famous quotes of the book and the most ironic and sincere declarations of love one has ever heard, fans shared the joy of watching their favorite couple blossom to life on the big screen.

“And so the lion fell in love with the lamb…” said Edward Cullen.
“What a stupid lamb,” said Bella Swam.
“What a sick, masochistic lion,” said Edward Cullen.

Those who have not read the books might have been confused with the intentional clumsiness and awkward moments of the actors on screen, but true “Twilight” fans understood every tense glance, every discomfited gesture and every pause between the two characters. Stewart played into the character of Bella perfectly. Her interactions with Pattinson were spot on and reminiscent of the character in the book. Not only did her actions fit the bill, but her looks were almost a perfect match to what I had pictured Bella to resemble.

Pattinson took Edwards character to a new level and brought all of the rage and internal conflict from the pages and to the audience with brilliance and composure. “Twilight” fans were unsure if Pattinson was a good match for Edward, but after seeing the movie I’m sure fans have put that question to rest.

As with all book adaptations a few things were added and some were taken out, but for the most part the movie stayed as true to the book as I feel is humanly possible. Speaking as someone who has read all four books, some of them twice, it was the best $10 I have spent in a long time.

“‘Twilight’ hit the box offices with a vengeance its first day out. The economy might be going to hell in a handbasket, but it’s nice to know that the underworld has a nice cash flow,” as written on http://www.associatedcontent.com/. “Reuters reports that the teen vampire movie raked in over $7 million dollars at its initial midnight offering and according to several tracking agencies is set on a course to threaten box office records. Movie aficionados are predicting at least a $70 million haul for the weekend.”

I don’t think fans need to worry about the sequel to “Twilight” not being made. If Summit studios knows what’s good for them they will take the reactions of the fans, instead of critiques and run with the idea to adapt “New Moon”, the next novel in the series, into a movie.

So if you’re looking for a movie to bring out a plethora of emotions and bittersweet tears to your eyes go check out “Twilight”, it will suck you right into their world.
