Partners in Prayer, Middlesex County College’s local Christian prayer club is hosting a clothing drive from Wednesday October 1st through Sunday November 30. All clothing will go to the victims of hurricane Gustav and hurricane IKE. Students can drop off clothing at four of the main buildings at MCC: College Center, Johnson Learning Center, Main Hall and L’Hommedieu Hall, said Adolphus Clint, MCC Media Department staff and faculty advisor for Partners in prayer.
Partners in Prayer provide a venue for students to get together for prayer, bible study and to compare religions through discussion and debate, said Clinton. The club also hosts parties, trips, movies and participates in at least two community service projects per year.
The clothing drive was proposed by club members at the first meeting of the new school year. Members of the organization contacted the Red Cross, who will be picking up the clothing from MCC on Monday, December 1, said Clinton.
“There have been quite a few hurricanes that have devastated a number of places. We chose Gustav and IKE because of what the media has been reporting on. The people who were affected by these hurricanes weren’t able to salvage anything. Most of them have nothing left,” said Clinton.
Out of the 20 Partners in Prayer members, 16 members : Renald Louisville, Samantha Clinton, Nailah pile, Ayla Clinton, Nneka Pile, Zacheriah Akingboju, Gary Edwards, Darrel Louisville, Jeff Walker, Jessica Isieka, De-Quil Ivey, Segun Ajibousa, JaQuan Barnharelt , Cisse Sano, Christopher Moore, Ashley Thaxton, are participating in the clothing drive, said Clinton. All clothing in good condition is accepted.
“We are looking for clothing for all ages and sizes. Anything people are able to donate would be helpful and appreciated. Every little bit helps,” said Clinton.
This is not the first time Partners in Prayer has held a clothing drive. In 2003 members of this organization held a drive to collect clothing and food for people in Liberia, West Africa. The organization teamed up with the Anointed Pentecostal Church from Orange, NJ. A little over five barrels of food and clothing were collected, said Clinton.
“The most recent clothing drive before the current one being held was in October 2007. We collected 25 large bags of clothing and gave it to the American Red Cross. And they gave us an Official Certificate of Clothing Donation which we have on file in the student activities office,” said Clinton
Both events were a success, which is why the club decided to hold one again, said Clinton. It is important to the members of Partners in prayer to help out as much as they can with what is going on in all parts of the world, said Clinton. Students who wish to donate clothes to the cause can find signs and large boxes located in the main lobbies of the above named buildings.
“We hope people come out to help our cause. Remember every little bit helps,” said Clinton.

so very nice to know that stuff like this still happens
Our college is very involved in the community. I’m editor-in-chief of the school newspaper, Quo Vadis, and we try to do one large community service event per semester. It’s quite fun.
