Review: Siciliana Hits Shelves

     “The colors of sunset have left, leaving a silver dying day. Light. Light of cloud lines, sky of ice channels,” Emanuel DiPasquale, professor at Middlesex County College and writer, wrote.
     The poem above, “Sunset,” is the last of ten poems in DiPasquale’s newest 43-page, bilingual, poetry book, “Siciliana.” The short, but eloquent poem is just one of many in this book that will make the reader reflect on the beauty of nature around them. DiPasquale has published six extraordinarily heartfelt poetry books prior to the release of “Siciliana,” and this work of art is no exception.
     Every poem in this book is special, but a few stand out among the others. In “The Nature of Pain,” DiPasquale captures intense passions with a couple of words and just a few lines of prose. The complimentary illustrations by Rocco Cafiso infuse the humanity behind each poem, making the work that much more potent to the reader.
     It isn’t hard to see DiPasquale’s intensity through his poetry. It’s as if the words reach out from the page and touch you at your core. He captures deep emotions and the simplicity of innocence in the natural world with his prose. DiPasquale writes from experience and doesn’t use fancy euphoniums, but plays on the depth of minimalism in the words to draw the reader into his poetry.
     In “Siciliana,” it is easy to see the life DiPasquale gives to his poetry. It awakens a part of you that maybe you weren’t even aware was there. If you’re looking for a unique and genuinely truthful book to read, pick up “Siciliana” at the Blue Colt Book Store. DiPasquale is truly a visionary. “Siciliana” is his best book yet and the poetry in this masterpiece will be enjoyed immensely by all who love the written prose.
