“When you love someone, it’s never over. You move on, because you have to, but you bring him with you in your heart,” said Dr. Carruthers, Kissed by an Angel.
Kissed by an Angel by Elizabeth Chandler is a hauntingly, suspenseful, romance that will take readers on a journey through adulthood, learning how to love, and knowing when to let go of that love. When 17-year-old Ivy Lyons loses the love of her life, Tristan Carruthers to a terrible accident her world is shattered, but as the story unfolds it becomes clear that Tristan’s death was no accident.
“Why? Why didn’t I die, too? You’re better off, Tristan. I hate you for being better off than me,” said Ivy Lyons, Kissed by an Angel.
This touching 704 page trilogy is comprised of three books in one: Kissed by an Angel, The Power of Love, and Soulmates. Each book is better than the next as Tristan, who comes back as Ivy’s guardian angel, is in a race against time to save her from his killer. A true tale about what life is like as a teenager, Chandler’s depiction of high school and everything that comes along with it is dead-on.
Chandler’s use of fiction and faith in Kissed by an Angel is gutsy and brings a unique quality to her writing. Using Ivy’s belief in angels as one of the main themes of the story to illustrate the transition from adolescence to adulthood, and the different ways teenagers get though the difficult times is ingenious.
Though the book is lengthy, the way Chandler puts everything together makes it easy and pleasurable to read. Like many authors today, Chandler uses a technique that catches the reader’s eye from the very beginning. In a lot of books the reader’s wait impatiently for one of the climatic moments to build up, but in Kissed by an Angel the books starts off with the accident and backtracks from there to when Tristan and Ivy first met, before leading us back to the aftermath of the incident.
By the end of Kissed by an Angel Tristan has realized that the accident was no accident and immediately sets out to try and contact Ivy. It isn’t until chapter three in the third book, Soulmates, that Tristan is finally successful in restoring Ivy’s faith in angels. In this three part book, Chandler is able to use Tristan and Ivy to bring to life emotions inside the reader that truly makes you feel apart of the story.
Readers will relate, and fall in love with the simplicity and trueness of the trials and tribulations of gaining and losing a first love. About growing up and learning that sometimes everything doesn’t work out the way you expected it to, but maybe, in the end what you get is better than what you expected.
“An unforgettable Trilogy of romance and suspense,” if you’re looking for a book to curl up with that will keep you interested and guessing with every turn of the page Chandler’s Kissed by an Angel is just the book for the job.
